Truecaller on Thursday added a new layer of security for its Indian users with Truecaller Fraud Insurance. It is a subscription-based plan that protects premium members from financial losses caused by mobile scams.
The feature is currently available in India only on Android and iOS and will be expanded further in the coming time. The initiative comes with the recent rollout of Truecaller's AI Call Scanner feature, which combats AI voice scams. The company has partnered with HDFC Ergo, a leading Indian insurance provider, to offer this financial protection.
Premium users will get the facility.
Truecaller announced the launch through a press release, saying that Truecaller Fraud Insurance is initially offered to our premium customers in India for both iOS and Android users.
The plan aims to further strengthen protection for the user against online fraud attempts.
Partnership and coverage details
Truecaller's insurance program is made possible through a collaboration with HDFC Ergo, a joint venture between HDFC and ERGO International.
Users can get coverage of up to Rs 10,000 for financial losses caused by mobile scams. This insurance is easily integrated into the Truecaller app, making it easy to activate upon opting in.
At present, details have not been revealed as to what you may need to claim for the insurance, but the company has outlined the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility and availability
Truecaller fraud insurance is not available to all users. It is currently limited to premium customers only, which includes customers with annual plans.
Users with non-annual premium plans will be given an upgrade option to access the insurance. Apart from this, some premium plan holders will get free coverage. Truecaller family customers can get protection for all members of their plan.
