Traveling to Vietnam Is No Longer Easy! New Health Regulations to Take Effect in July..
If you are planning to visit Vietnam for tourism, a business trip, or to transit through the country, you may soon need to complete an additional formality before you fly. According to a recent update from the Vietnamese government, effective July 1, 2026, a Health Declaration will become mandatory for all travelers entering, exiting, or transiting through the country. This requirement could impact tourists, business travelers, students, and individuals utilizing Vietnam as a travel hub within Southeast Asia.
**What Will Change?**
Under the new regulations, travelers will be required to submit a Health Declaration within seven days of their arrival in, departure from, or transit through Vietnam. The Ministry of Health of Vietnam will determine exactly when this rule applies and for which infectious diseases it is required. This decision will be made based on the global health situation and the risk of disease transmission within the country.
Although the government has confirmed this new regulation, details regarding how travelers will submit the Health Declaration—and which digital platform will be used for this purpose—have not yet been released. Detailed guidelines regarding this matter are expected to be issued in the coming weeks.
**Potential Delays in the Initial Phase**
According to Fragomen, an immigration consulting firm, travelers and companies may experience some delays during the initial days of the new rule's implementation as everyone adapts to the new procedures.
**Pilot Program Already Underway**
Vietnam has already initiated a trial run for this type of system. Since April 2026, foreign travelers arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport have been required to complete an online Health Declaration form three days before their arrival.
According to Fragomen, while this system was introduced to streamline the immigration process, it also highlights an increased emphasis on the large-scale collection of personal data for security and surveillance purposes. In the future, this requirement may be expanded to other points of entry as well.
**What Should Indian Travelers Do?** If you are planning to visit Vietnam towards the end of this year, be sure to check the official guidelines before your trip. Keep an eye on updates issued by airlines. Allow for extra time for immigration procedures. Safely retain digital copies of any health declarations and other documents submitted online. If you are traveling to another country via Vietnam, please also check the transit regulations, as these rules may apply to transit passengers as well.
Currently, the government has not yet fully disclosed the details of the entire process; however, it is certain that starting in July 2026, travelers visiting Vietnam may be required to complete an additional health declaration procedure before commencing their journey.
