According to Indian Railways, a circular journey ticket is issued for journeys that begin and end at the same station. This allows passengers to travel through several cities on a fixed route.

Millions of people travel by train every day in India, but there are still many railway facilities that most passengers are unaware of. One of these facilities is the circular journey ticket. This ticket is considered very beneficial, especially for tourists and pilgrims. However, due to a lack of information, very few people use it. So, let's tell you today how you can travel to multiple cities on a single ticket.

What is a Circular Journey Ticket?

According to Indian Railways, a circular journey ticket is issued for journeys that begin and end at the same station.  With this ticket, passengers can travel through several cities and stations on a fixed route and finally return to the same station where the journey began. The biggest advantage of a circular journey ticket is that it allows passengers to travel to 8 different stations with a single ticket.  Traveling on different trains is also permitted during this journey. This is why this ticket is considered very useful for pilgrims and those planning tours.

Validity of up to 56 days

According to railway rules, a circular journey ticket is valid for 56 days. This means that passengers can travel in stages according to their tour plan. There is no need to book tickets repeatedly for long-distance journeys.  Also, telescopic fares apply to circular journey tickets, which are lower than regular point-to-point tickets. This means that the more stations included in the journey, the lower the fare per ticket. This is why this ticket proves to be cheaper than booking separate tickets.

Who can avail this ticket?

This ticket is available for all categories, from Sleeper Class to First Class. Circular journey tickets can be issued to individual passengers as well as those traveling in groups. According to railway rules, senior citizens are also eligible for a fare concession if the journey under the circular journey ticket covers a minimum distance of 1000 kilometers.

How to book a circular journey ticket?

Circular journey tickets are not available directly at the ticket counter. Passengers must first provide their travel route details to the railway authorities. After the route is finalized, the ticket price is calculated, and the passenger can then collect the ticket from the designated station. Seat reservations are then made for the different legs of the journey.
