Travel time from Delhi to Lucknow and Patna to be halved; bullet train set to connect UP and Bihar

Travel time for passengers commuting from Delhi to Lucknow and Patna could be significantly reduced once the bullet train service begins. It is estimated that the journey from Delhi to Lucknow will take approximately 2 hours and 12 minutes, while the trip to Patna is expected to take around 4 hours and 30 minutes.

There is good news for those who currently spend hours traveling by train from Delhi to UP and Bihar. In the future, the journey from Delhi to Lucknow could take just 2 hours and 12 minutes, and the trip to Patna around 4 hours. This will become possible once the proposed Delhi-Patna bullet train route is operational. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has shared details regarding this bullet train project.

There is a high volume of train passengers traveling to UP and Bihar, and the long distances involved—such as the approximately 1,170 km stretch between Delhi and Patna—result in lengthy travel times. Currently, journeys on trains like the Superfast and Rajdhani take about 12 hours. However, with the introduction of the bullet train, the same journey is expected to be completed in about 4 hours and 30 minutes, potentially saving a significant amount of time for travelers heading to UP and Bihar.

2 hours 12 minutes to reach Lucknow

The distance from Delhi to Lucknow is approximately 495 kilometers. The upcoming bullet train will be able to cover this distance in about 2 hours and 12 minutes, meaning a long train journey can be completed in a fraction of the time.

The approximately 200-kilometer journey from Delhi to Agra is estimated to take just 58 minutes by bullet train. Meanwhile, reaching Kanpur—located about 455 kilometers away—could take around 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Reduced travel time to Prayagraj and Varanasi

The approximately 750-kilometer journey from Delhi to Prayagraj could be covered in about 3 hours. Similarly, the trip from Delhi to Varanasi—a distance of around 945 kilometers—is estimated to take approximately 3 hours and 33 minutes. With the upcoming bullet train, travel times from Delhi would be 58 minutes to Agra, 1 hour 50 minutes to Kanpur, 2 hours 12 minutes to Lucknow, 3 hours to Prayagraj, 3 hours 33 minutes to Varanasi, and approximately 4 hours 30 minutes to Patna. If the project proceeds according to plan, the long journeys from Delhi to several major cities in UP and Bihar will be reduced to just a few hours.
