Transferring your RC is essential after selling your vehicle. Learn the easiest way.
Vehicle RC Transfer Process: RC transfer is crucial after selling your vehicle, and delays can cause significant issues. Learn the complete process.
Many people often take the RC transfer process lightly after selling their vehicle. The vehicle is sold, but the papers remain in their name. This poses a significant risk. If the buyer misuses the vehicle or receives a fine, the responsibility falls on you.
It's always important to transfer your RC immediately after selling your vehicle. First, prepare a sales letter between you and the buyer. This is a written document containing the date of sale, the price, and both parties' signatures. This proves the date the vehicle was sold.
Then, begin the RC transfer process. The buyer must fill out Form 29 and Form 30. Both forms are easily downloadable from the RTO website. These include vehicle information, engine number, chassis number, and details of both parties.
The form must be filled out and signed by both you and the buyer. The buyer then submits several essential documents to the RTO. These include your old RC, a copy of the insurance policy, pollution certificate, sale letter, Aadhaar or identity documents for both parties, and passport photos.
If there is a loan on the vehicle, a NOC is also required. Once all documents are submitted correctly, the transfer process becomes much easier. A transfer fee is then paid to the RTO. This fee depends on the type of vehicle.
After the fee is paid, the vehicle can also be inspected if the RTO deems it necessary. After checking the engine number and chassis number, officials verify the documents. Once all formalities are completed, the file is processed.
Once the file is processed, the RTO generates an RC in the name of the new owner. This card is sent by post to the buyer's address, or they can pick it up in person at the RTO office. Until a new RC is issued, you should keep the transfer application receipt. This serves as proof that the vehicle is no longer in your name.
