Rail Tickets: For people from UP and Bihar, train travel is akin to fighting a battle. Confirmed tickets remain elusive even after booking two months ahead. Find out the reasons behind this.

Confirmed Train Ticket News: Securing a train ticket has become a monumental challenge for the lakhs of passengers traveling from Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, and other major cities. Even outside of the festive and holiday seasons, obtaining a confirmed ticket is becoming increasingly difficult on ordinary days.

Passengers argue that while the Railways has established rules, the number of trains and seats has not been increased in line with rising demand. It is the common people who bear the brunt of this situation.

Confirmed tickets remain unavailable despite booking well in advance.

On most major routes connecting Bihar and UP, passengers often have to attempt booking tickets one and a half to two months prior to their travel date. Despite this, tickets frequently remain on the waiting list. There is a severe shortage of seats on trains bound for major stations like Delhi, Ghaziabad, Anand Vihar, and New Delhi, with many passengers facing waiting list numbers ranging from 100 to 300.

What challenges arise during online ticket booking?

Ramdev Poddar, a passenger who traveled from Jogbani to Ghaziabad to visit his daughter, shared that whenever he tried to book a ticket online, the railway website showed all seats as full. He explained that, out of necessity, he had to book a 3rd AC ticket through a vendor and pay extra charges to make the trip and visit his daughter.

Ramdev Poddar noted that he observed several empty seats on the train during his journey. He questioned why passengers cannot get tickets when seats actually remain vacant. He asserts that if the government formulates rules, it must also ensure adequate arrangements for the convenience of passengers.

What do people do when they need to travel urgently?

When immediate travel is required due to urgent work, illness, family events, or other reasons, passengers are left with limited options. Many attempt to book 'Tatkal' (emergency quota) tickets, but even those sell out within a mere 2–4 minutes. Consequently, people turn to agents and vendors, incurring extra costs. Some are forced to travel by bus or private vehicle, while others are compelled to purchase expensive flight tickets.

Why is it so difficult to secure tickets between Bihar and Delhi?

A large number of laborers, students, working professionals, and businesspeople regularly travel between Bihar and the Delhi-NCR region. The pressure on ticket availability is constantly rising because the number of trains and seats falls short of the demand. On many trains, seats fill up the moment reservations open, leading to long waiting lists.

Addressing Passenger Demand: Increasing the Number of Trains and Seats

Passengers argue that additional trains should be operated for Bihar and the Purvanchal region. Furthermore, extra coaches should be added to trains that consistently experience heavy overcrowding. People believe that unless the number of trains and seats is increased to match demand, ordinary passengers will continue to face long waits and various hardships in securing tickets.

It is worth noting that securing a confirmed ticket is the primary challenge for passengers traveling between Delhi and the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Issues such as failing to get a seat despite trying two months in advance, long waiting lists, the unavailability of Tatkal tickets, and reliance on agents have become commonplace. In this scenario, passengers look to the Railways and the government to increase the number of trains and seats in response to rising demand, thereby making travel easier and more accessible.
