Train Ticket Rules: Some people believe that traveling on another person's ticket is no big deal, but doing so can lead to action being taken against you. Here are the important railway rules you should know.

Train Ticket Rules: Frequent train travelers often make mistakes that can prove costly later. Many people set out to travel using another person's ticket, assuming the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) won't find out. But do you know whether traveling on someone else's ticket is permissible? Could doing so land you in trouble?

Traveling on another passenger's ticket can prove costly

If you travel on someone else's ticket, the Railways can confiscate the ticket.
Additionally, the TTE can charge an extra ₹500 on top of the fare.
If a passenger refuses to pay the fine, legal action can be taken against them.
The matter could even reach the Railway Court, potentially resulting in imprisonment.

Railways tightens rules

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Railways, new rules came into effect on June 20. Under the new regulations, a double fine will be imposed if caught traveling without a ticket. Similarly, if a passenger is caught reusing a ticket that has already been used, action will be taken against them, and a double fine will be levied. Previously, the fine for such cases was ₹250, but this amount has now been increased.

Railways' advice to passengers

Railway officials have urged passengers to travel with a valid ticket and strictly adhere to all railway regulations. Traveling on another person's ticket constitutes a violation of railway rules and can lead to legal action against you. Following the rules not only saves you from fines and legal consequences but also ensures a safe journey.
