Train Ticket Rules: Don't worry if you have an RAC ticket; you might get a confirmed berth during the journey—here are the railway rules.
Train RAC Ticket Rules: If you hold an RAC ticket while traveling by train, there is no need to worry, as you can still get a full seat during the journey. Read on for full details.
Train RAC Ticket Rules: Most people book train tickets three or four months in advance, hoping to secure a confirmed seat by the time of travel. However, the ticket sometimes remains in RAC status instead of getting confirmed. Many people assume that an RAC ticket means they won't be able to travel comfortably, but that is not the case.
An RAC ticket entitles you to travel on the train; even if you don't get a full berth initially, your journey is guaranteed. Passengers with this ticket also receive various amenities that make their trip easier and more convenient.
1. Can you travel with an RAC ticket?
If the reservation chart has been prepared and your ticket remains in RAC status, you can still travel on the train, as it is considered a valid ticket. Consequently, a TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) cannot remove you from the train or impose any fine.
2. You will get a seat to sit
Even with an RAC ticket, you are provided with a seat to sit on, so you won't have to travel while standing or feeling uncomfortable. The Railways typically assigns a side-lower berth to two RAC passengers, allowing you to travel comfortably in a seated position.
3. Possibility of getting a full berth
If a passenger with a confirmed ticket cancels their booking, fails to board the train, or ends their journey midway after the trip has started, the vacant berth is often allotted to an RAC passenger.
4. Is there a difference between a Waiting List ticket and an RAC ticket?
Yes, there is a difference. With an RAC ticket, a passenger can travel while seated on the train. In other words, a seat is provided; however, unlike a passenger with a waitlisted ticket—who can only travel once their ticket is confirmed—an RAC passenger is permitted to travel immediately. This is why an RAC ticket is preferable to a waitlisted ticket.
5. RAC tickets in AC classes include all amenities
If you hold an RAC ticket for an AC class, you will be provided with a blanket, pillow, and bedsheet just like other passengers. Since the Railways charges the full fare to RAC passengers, it cannot refuse to provide these amenities.
