If you have a general coach ticket, you can board another train on the same route. The type of train matters - there are specific guidelines for trains like Vande Bharat, Superfast, and Rajdhani Express.
Unfortunately, if you have a reserved ticket, you cannot travel on another train with that ticket. Because you may have to pay a fine if caught.
Applying for a refund
Log into the IRCTC app: Start by logging into your account.
File a TDR: Click the “Trains” option, then select “File TDR.”
Select your ticket: A list of your tickets will appear; choose the one you want to file.
Submit a reason: After selecting your ticket, select a reason for the TDR and submit it.
You can expect to receive your refund within 60 days.
Ticket cancellation refunds
Confirmed tickets:
Cancel 48 hours to 12 hours before departure: 25% of the total amount will be deducted.
Cancel 4 to 12 hours before departure: 50% of the ticket price will be deducted.
