Train ticket not booked but money deducted from your bank? Here’s how to get a refund.
Do not panic if your payment is deducted on IRCTC but the ticket is not booked. Money from transactions that fail due to network or server issues is usually refunded, though the process may take some time.
IRCTC Refund News: If you travel by train and book tickets via the IRCTC website or app, there are times when the payment is deducted but the ticket fails to book. In such situations, people often worry about whether they will get their money back. However, this issue usually arises due to network problems or server outages. If you encounter a situation where the ticket isn't booked despite the payment being made, the money from the failed transaction can be recovered through the refund process.
However, the timing and method of the refund depend on your payment mode and the bank's processing procedures. Therefore, before attempting to pay again, make sure to check the status of your transaction.
When do you get the money back?
If the payment has gone through but the ticket wasn't booked, the refund process for the failed transaction is initiated. The money is typically returned to the same bank account, UPI handle, or payment source used for the original transaction. However, due to banking or payment system procedures, it may take a few working days for the refund to reflect. So, there is no need to panic if the refund doesn't appear immediately.
How to check the refund status?
Log in to the IRCTC website or app.
Check your booking and transaction records.
Look for information regarding the failed transaction or refund.
Keep a record of the transaction details available there.
If there is a significant delay in receiving the funds in your bank account, contact the bank or IRCTC using these details.
What to do if the money is not refunded?
If you do not receive your refund even after 7 days, first thoroughly check your bank statement and IRCTC transaction details. Next, lodge a complaint via email at IRCTC's official address: etickets@irctc.co.in. However, keep details such as the transaction ID, date of payment, and other necessary information handy when filing the complaint to avoid any inconvenience. Alternatively, you can also register a complaint by calling the railway helpline number, 139.
