TTEs accompanying trains carry HHT devices to enter details of onboard passengers. If a passenger with a reserved seat does not show up, the TTE marks that seat as vacant. Currently, the TTE holds this information and allocates the seat to passengers at their own discretion. However, once the automated system is implemented, a vacant seat will be automatically allocated to RAC or waitlisted passengers based on priority. As soon as a berth is allocated to a passenger, they will be informed via a text message.

**Live status of berths will be visible**
Once the new railway system is implemented, passengers will be able to view the live status of vacant berths even while the train is moving. At present, one has to approach the TTE to inquire about seat availability. However, with the automated system in place, manual intervention will cease, and vacant seats will be automatically allocated to passengers. The Railways has currently implemented this on trains running from Mumbai to Bihar, and it will soon be rolled out nationwide in a phased manner.
