Indian Railways: The train is an affordable and comfortable mode of transport, allowing people to travel long distances at a low cost. Often, due to issues related to tickets and seating, it becomes essential to be well-informed about railway rules.

Indian Railways Rules: Trains are considered an economical mode of transport for everyone, as they allow us to travel long distances comfortably, even on a limited budget. This is precisely why trains remain the first choice for many people. While many passengers secure their seats by making reservations months in advance, others are unable to book their tickets ahead of time. In such situations, people often plan to purchase a ticket directly at the station; however, this is not always possible.

In the meantime, if a TTE (Travel Ticket Examiner) asks a passenger for money in exchange for issuing a ticket—or demands a bribe for any other service—you have the right to file a complaint against them. First and foremost, a TTE’s primary duty is to ensure that passengers are seated correctly in their assigned seats. Additionally, TTEs are expected to assist passengers in resolving their issues; however, instances where certain TTEs demand bribes have frequently been observed.

How to File a Complaint Against a TTE

If a TTE behaves inappropriately or demands a bribe from you, you can take the following necessary steps:
First, make a note of the TTE’s name and badge number.
If possible, record a video of the incident to ensure you have concrete evidence.
Immediately thereafter, file a formal complaint.

Where to File a Complaint?

Via the ‘Rail Madad’ App.

Website: www.coms.indianrailways.gov.in
Helpline Number: By calling 182.
Once you file a complaint, it is directly forwarded to the railway authorities, and appropriate action is subsequently taken.
