Train Confirmed Ticket: If someone else occupies your confirmed seat, knowing a few key things can help you easily reclaim it. Find out more here.

Train Confirmed Ticket: Securing a confirmed train ticket is no easy task. Imagine finally getting one after much effort, only to reach your coach and find someone else occupying your seat. In such a situation, knowing certain railway rules can help you comfortably reclaim your seat.

Reclaim your seat without a confrontation.

According to railway rules, only the person in whose name the seat is booked is entitled to travel in it. If someone else is sitting in your seat, try explaining the situation calmly first; getting angry can often escalate the matter, as people sometimes sit in the wrong seat by mistake, believing it to be their own.

If the other passenger does not listen to you, you can ask to see their ticket to clear up any misunderstanding. Sometimes, people refuse to show their ticket or vacate the seat. If the passenger behaves this way, avoid getting into an argument with them.

What to do if the seat isn't vacated

If, despite your best efforts, the passenger occupying your seat refuses to vacate it, you can take the following steps:

First, inform the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) present in the coach.
If the TTE is not in the coach at that moment, you can call the railway helpline number, 139.
You can also lodge a complaint via the RailMadad app.
If necessary, you can seek assistance from the RPF (Railway Protection Force).
By keeping these points in mind, you can reclaim your seat without getting into a confrontation.
