Train News: Railways revises rules for carrying luggage on trains: which equipment is permitted, and who benefits?
Indian Railways: There is good news for athletes traveling by train. The Ministry of Railways has issued new rules permitting the carriage of oversized sports equipment on trains.
Indian Railways Rule: Adhering to railway regulations is mandatory for every passenger during a train journey. Railways do not permit the carriage of just any item; violating these rules can lead to penalties and fines. However, there is special news for athletes: traveling with large sports equipment will now be easier than before.
The Ministry of Railways has issued new guidelines allowing oversized sports equipment to be carried on trains. However, this facility does not apply to all types of sports equipment. The Ministry recently issued a circular outlining specific rules for non-standard-sized and fragile sports equipment.
Which equipment is permitted?
Under the new rules, items such as javelins and other large sports equipment can be carried on the train upon payment of the prescribed freight charges. Priority will be given to accommodating this equipment in the train's luggage compartment, ensuring athletes can travel without inconvenience. The Ministry has clarified that the standard luggage weight limits will not apply to sports equipment.
Equipment not permitted
Pole-vault poles have not been included in the new rules. This is because their length and technical specifications make it impossible to transport them safely in any passenger coach; hence, permission was not granted.
Items prohibited on trains
You cannot carry just anything on a train. Prohibited items include...
Carrying petrol, diesel, or any flammable substance is forbidden. Additionally, carrying items such as firecrackers and gunpowder is prohibited.
Carrying gas cylinders on the train is also banned.
Carrying weapons or any kind of dangerous material could lead to serious consequences.
Please note that if you carry any prohibited items on the train, action may be taken against you, and you could even face a fine.
