Train News: 'Make in India' Making Waves Globally; Indian Railways' New Rake Reaches Bangladesh

Indian Railways: The 'Make in India' initiative is gaining global acclaim. India's neighbor, Bangladesh, has received modern LHB coaches from India. The first rake has been dispatched from RCF Kapurthala.

LHB Train Coach: The first rake comprising 20 LHB broad-gauge passenger coaches, manufactured for Bangladesh Railways at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, has been rolled out. This rake includes passenger coaches of various classes, featuring several new designs and technical modifications.

The first rake consists of a total of 20 LHB broad-gauge passenger coaches. These include 3 AC sleeper cars, 3 AC chair cars, 12 non-AC chair cars, and 2 power cars. According to RCF, these coaches incorporate several special design features and technical upgrades. Many of these modifications have been developed and implemented in LHB-type coaches for the first time.

It is worth noting that the collaboration between Rail Coach Factory and Bangladesh Railways began in the 2015-16 fiscal year. At that time, RCF successfully delivered 120 LHB broad-gauge passenger coaches to Bangladesh Railways.

Building upon this successful partnership, Bangladesh Railways placed an order with RCF in 2024—through RITES—for the supply of 200 broad-gauge passenger coaches. These 200 coaches are to be manufactured in seven different variants.

The successful rollout of the first rake for Bangladesh Railways is considered a significant achievement for the Rail Coach Factory. This move will not only strengthen cooperation in the railway sector between India and Bangladesh but also provide Indian Railways with an opportunity to showcase its manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise in the international market. Furthermore, this achievement by the Rail Coach Factory could pave the way for future opportunities regarding passenger coach manufacturing and international railway projects with other nations.
