Train Cancellations: Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, and Other Trains Affected on This Route for 42 Days Starting Today—See the List
Due to track repair work on the Ganga Bridge along the Kanpur-Lucknow railway route, several trains—including the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express—will be affected for a period of 42 days, commencing April 2. Some trains will be cancelled, while others will operate via diverted routes. See the list below.
Train Cancellation News: If you are planning to travel by train in the coming days, please take note. Starting today—April 2—and continuing for the next 42 days, several trains, including the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express, are set to be affected. The Railways has announced that repair and maintenance work on the tracks situated atop the Ganga Bridge on the Kanpur-Lucknow railway route in Uttar Pradesh will impact the schedules of numerous trains.
This railway corridor is one of the busiest routes in Uttar Pradesh. Consequently, a large number of rail passengers may face challenges such as train delays and cancellations. The North Central Railway has informed that the repair work on the tracks has had the most significant impact on premium train services.
According to the North Central Railway:
The Swarna Shatabdi Express (12004), traveling from New Delhi to Lucknow, will now reach its destination via Ghaziabad and Moradabad, instead of its scheduled route via Etawah and Kanpur.
Other long-distance trains—such as the Lokmanya Tilak-Gorakhpur and Panvel-Gorakhpur services—have also been diverted to run via Prayagraj and Ayodhya.
The Vande Bharat Express (22426), operating between Anand Vihar and Ayodhya Cantt, will also run on a diverted route (via Moradabad and Lucknow).
It is worth noting that on specific days during this period (April 8, 15, 22, and 29; and May 6), the Vande Bharat Express will continue to operate on its original route—that is, via Kanpur.
Approximately Half a Dozen Trains Completely Cancelled
Local passengers are expected to face the greatest difficulties during this 42-day period. The Railways......has completely cancelled approximately half a dozen trains, including:
- The Lucknow-Jhansi MEMU
- The Raebareli Passenger
- The Kanpur-Lucknow MEMU
- And the Kanpur-Sitapur Passenger
The Railways has further informed that the Kasganj-Lucknow Express will be short-terminated at Anwarganj station. This means that this train will not proceed all the way to Lucknow. Additionally, the Agra Fort-Lucknow Express will not arrive in Kanpur and will instead be operated via a diverted route.
Why was this decision taken?
Railway officials have stated that this daily 8-hour operational block has been implemented to ensure the safety of passengers. During this period, work involving the replacement of sleepers and the rectification of track fittings will be carried out on a war footing. The Railways has appealed to passengers to strictly verify the current status of their train—either through the 'National Train Enquiry System' (NTES) or via helpline number 139—before commencing their journey.
