RTO Traffic Challan: Have you received a message stating that you have a pending traffic challan? If so, read this report before opening the message or clicking on any links.

RTO Traffic Challan: To facilitate public convenience, the government now communicates with the public via online channels or text messages. However, are these messages or links authentic? It is often difficult to tell. Recently, many people have been receiving SMS messages, WhatsApp links, and APK files notifying them of outstanding traffic challans.

Are these messages and links genuine?

In fact, many people are currently receiving messages purportedly from the RTO regarding traffic challan payments; these messages contain APK files and links. Now, an official government investigative agency has revealed the truth behind these messages.

What is the truth?

The government agency 'PIB Fact Check' has exposed the reality of these messages circulating among the public. A video shared via PIB's official X (Twitter) account clarifies the situation, labeling these messages as completely fake.

The accompanying caption reads: "Received an SMS about a traffic challan? Verify it first before taking any action. Cyber fraudsters are currently sending fake RTO e-challan SMS and WhatsApp messages. These messages look highly authentic and contain fake links, APK files, or PDFs. Clicking on such links or installing the APK files could expose your OTP, bank account details, and UPI information to cyber fraudsters, potentially leading to unauthorized withdrawals from your account."

Additionally, the following precautions are advised:

Do not click on challan-related links received via SMS or WhatsApp. Never install an APK file received via a message.
Always check traffic challan details by visiting the official e-challan website.
Additionally, the public is urged to remain vigilant and not to trust any suspicious links or messages.
