Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) officials have announced this. The total refund amount will be ₹5.16 crore. The refund will include tolls for both the expressway and the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. Traffic came to a complete halt after the gas tanker overturned on the expressway. Thousands of commuters were stuck in traffic jams for hours. While instructions were issued to stop toll collection during this time, toll collection continued even after the implementation of the order.
MSRDC sought details from IRB Infrastructure
In a conversation with TOI, an MSRDC official said, "We have data on commuters who were charged tolls despite the toll suspension order following the gas tanker accident. This amount will be refunded to their FASTag accounts in the coming week." Following the suspension of toll collection due to the accident and the resulting traffic jam, MSRDC also sought detailed data on FASTag deductions from its concessionaire, IRB Infrastructure, to ensure proper refunds to all affected commuters.
Commuters were stranded in traffic jams for hours
MSRDC had explicitly asked IRB whether toll collections were still being collected after receiving information about the suspension. He said, it is believed that passengers' FASTags may have been deducted until the toll plaza barriers opened. Passengers who were still charged tolls even after the order to stop toll collection was issued will now be refunded.
It should be noted that due to the accident on February 3rd, people who were stuck in traffic for more than a day without basic amenities faced significant hardship. Especially the elderly, women, and children faced significant difficulties. Many had to cancel their plans. When news of toll collection continuing at Khalapur Plaza surfaced, people's anger increased further.
In what cases is a toll refund available?

If a faulty FASTag scanner deducts the wrong amount, you will receive your refund.
If a small vehicle, such as a car, is mistaken for a larger vehicle and is overcharged, the amount is refunded later.
If the toll is deducted without passing through the toll plaza, the full amount is refunded.
