Google Chrome Users Are At Risk: If you use Google Chrome, you need to be vigilant. Several critical security vulnerabilities have surfaced in this browser, which cyber attackers could exploit to target your system. Leveraging these weaknesses, attackers could steal your personal data, install malware, and—in many cases—even completely cripple your entire system. In light of these threats, the government agency CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued an alert. It is worth noting that Google Chrome is one of the most widely used browsers globally, and in India, millions of people use it for both professional and personal purposes.

These Google Chrome Versions Face Heightened Risk

The alert issued by the government agency states that versions older than 148.0.7778.96 on Linux, and versions older than 148.0.7778.96/97 on Windows and Mac systems, are at risk due to these security flaws. By exploiting these vulnerabilities, attackers could trick users into opening malicious websites or clicking on harmful links. If this occurs, attackers could steal sensitive data—including passwords and banking details—from the system. Furthermore, they could cause the system to crash and bypass the browser’s security protections.

These Flaws Have Been Discovered in Chrome

The cybersecurity agency has identified security vulnerabilities across several components within Chrome. According to reports, these flaws were found in Chrome’s rendering engine, graphics processing, and memory handling mechanisms. Additionally, memory errors, input validation glitches, and security policy bypass vulnerabilities have also been detected. While these issues may sound highly technical, they will have a direct impact on the security of your data and your device.

What Options Do Users Have Now?

The agency has advised all users to immediately update their Google Chrome browsers. To fix these security vulnerabilities, the company has released new security patches, which can be installed by updating the browser. To do this, first open Chrome, then navigate to the “Help” section and click on “About Google Chrome.” If a new update appears to be available there, download and install it immediately. It is worth noting that apps and software should always be kept updated to access the latest features and avoid bugs.
