This new rule of EPFO will benefit crores of employees, PF claim will not be rejected due to overlap service period..

EPFO New Rules 2025: This new rule of Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will provide relief to crores of employees. EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organization) has made it clear that now the transfer claim cannot be rejected due to the overlapping service period of the employees. EPFO emphasized that it is not right to reject PF claims based on overlapping service periods.
The organization says that overlap can happen due to many genuine reasons, so it should not be considered as the basis for rejecting the transfer claim. That is, now if there is an overlapping in your service period between two jobs, then your PF transfer claim cannot be rejected only due to this reason. EPFO gave this information in a circular issued on May 20, 2025.
What is an overlapping service period?
When an employee is shown working in two different organizations, it is called an overlap service period. This can happen when the last date of working in one company and the joining date of the other company overlap due to many reasons or some error. Often this happens due to technical fault or wrong entry of dates and it is not the fault of the employee.
What does the new rule say?
According to EPFO, if overlapping is seen in any transfer claim and if needed, the concerned officer can seek clarification from the employee, but the claim will not be rejected just because of overlapping. EPFO has taken this step to make the transfer process simple and fast.
Important advice for employees
To avoid such problems, keep your joining and relieving letters safe while changing jobs. Keep the information linked to Aadhaar in your PF account updated. If EPFO asks you for any clarification, submit your documents immediately.
Benefits of this new rule of EPFO
After this rule, the problem of PF claim rejection due to the overlap period will end, which will make the process of PF transfer faster. Employees will get relief from the problem of repeated PF claim rejection. The new rule will reduce the cases of claim rejection. Crores of members will benefit from this rule.
