This insurance covers the entire cost of cancer treatment; HDFC offers cashless treatment options.
HDFC ERGO’s ‘iCan Cancer Insurance Plan’ provides coverage ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹50 lakh. It offers financial protection for treatment, severe forms of cancer, and recurrence of the disease. There is a waiting period of 120 days.
A diagnosis of a serious illness like cancer brings not only mental distress but also significant financial challenges for the patient and their family. Expenses for chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and post-treatment follow-up tests can be substantial.
Rather than relying solely on a standard health insurance policy, some individuals seek specialized insurance coverage tailored to a specific illness. Addressing this need, HDFC ERGO’s ‘iCan Cancer Insurance Plan’ has gained attention. This policy offers coverage amounts between ₹5 lakh and ₹50 lakh.
Additional benefits in the ‘Enhance’ plan
The ‘Enhance’ variant of this policy includes two distinct lump-sum benefits. The first is ‘CritiCare,’ which provides a lump-sum payout equal to 60% of the sum insured upon the diagnosis of cancer of a specified severity.
The second is the ‘FamilyCare’ benefit, which offers a lump-sum payout equal to 100% of the sum insured if the cancer reaches Stage IV or in the event of a recurrence. Both benefits can be availed once during the policyholder's lifetime, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. Additionally, patients can seek a second medical opinion from the insurance company’s panel of medical experts.
Cancer insurance plan available in two variants
HDFC ERGO offers the ‘iCan Cancer Insurance Plan’ in two variants: ‘Essential’ and ‘Enhance.’ Customers can choose the option that best suits their needs and budget. Both plans provide coverage for eligible medical expenses related to cancer treatment. The 'My Care' benefit under the policy covers expenses related to hospitalisation, day-care procedures, and eligible cancer treatments. In addition to standard treatments, advanced treatment options can also be availed as an optional cover.
What should you keep in mind?
This plan is designed exclusively for cancer-related treatments. It does not cover treatment for other illnesses, medical care received outside India, certain congenital external conditions, or specific prosthetic devices.
Therefore, it is essential to understand the premium, coverage, optional features, and all exclusions before purchasing the policy. This is not a substitute for a standard health insurance policy; rather, it is a plan that provides additional protection.
A 120-day waiting period applies.
A waiting period of 120 days—approximately four months—applies from the date the policy commences. During this period, no cancer-related claims are accepted under the policy.
