Delhi Ban on Vehicles: With the onset of winter and after Diwali, Delhi's pollution levels have steadily increased. As usual, the air quality has deteriorated significantly this time too. Consequently, the government has once again implemented GRAP (Graded Action Response Plan) to control pollution. Under this plan, entry of certain vehicles into Delhi has now been completely banned.
This rule comes into effect from November 1st, 2025. According to the Commission, vehicles that do not comply with BS-6 standards will no longer be allowed into Delhi. The purpose of this decision is to clean Delhi's air and provide relief from rising pollution. The government hopes this will significantly reduce the problem of haze and smog during winter. Let us tell you which vehicles have been banned and which ones can still run.
Ban on these vehicles
The entry of old and polluting vehicles into Delhi has now been completely banned. The Commission has issued an order stating that all commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi, such as light goods vehicles, medium goods vehicles, and heavy goods vehicles, that do not meet the BS-6 standard, will no longer be permitted to enter Delhi. This ban comes into effect from November 1, 2025.
This means that only low-pollution vehicles will now be allowed to operate in Delhi. However, as part of a transition period, BS-4 commercial vehicles have been granted an exemption until October 31, 2026, to give businesses time to prepare and ensure the supply of goods is not affected.
These vehicles will be allowed to enter
Only certain types of vehicles are now permitted to enter Delhi. These include all commercial goods vehicles registered in Delhi. Furthermore, BS-6 compliant petrol and diesel vehicles will be able to move freely. BS-4 vehicles have been exempted until October 31, 2026. Vehicles running on CNG and LNG can enter Delhi.
Because they are safer for the environment, electric vehicles have also been given full exemption because they do not cause pollution. However, if any stage of GRAP is implemented, further restrictions may be imposed for a short period depending on the situation.
