Train Cancellation List: If you are planning to travel by train sometime next month, this news is crucial for you. Millions of people across the country travel by train every day; however, in April, passengers on certain routes are likely to face increased difficulties. Specifically, extensive repair work is about to commence on the old railway bridge spanning the River Ganga near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This maintenance work will begin on April 2 and continue for the next 40 days.
With passenger safety in mind, the Railways has decided to significantly restrict train movement across the bridge during this period. Consequently, several major trains have either been completely cancelled or have had their routes diverted. Before leaving home, please ensure you check this list of cancelled trains to avoid any inconvenience or regret upon reaching the station.
Why Are Trains Being Cancelled?
The railway bridge spanning the River Ganga between Kanpur and Unnao is quite old; therefore, periodic repairs are essential to maintain its structural integrity. During this ‘Mega Block’—which begins on April 2—engineers will conduct a thorough inspection and undertake necessary repairs to the bridge’s structure and tracks.
- This maintenance work on the Ganga Bridge is expected to continue for approximately 42 days.
- For safety reasons, the schedules of more than 40 trains operating on this route have been affected.
- To minimize inconvenience to passengers, the Railways has decided to ‘short-terminate’ (run only up to intermediate stations) certain trains.
- Once the maintenance work is complete, improvements are expected in both train speeds and overall safety.
- All in all, this step taken by the Railways is absolutely essential for ensuring safe travel in the future, even if it causes some temporary inconvenience at present.
