Many functions, from adjusting screen brightness to motion control in gaming, are made possible by sensors. Several sensors are installed in smartphones for this purpose.

Have you ever wondered how your phone detects the surrounding light to adjust the screen brightness, or how lifting your phone during gaming slows down the car or bike's speed? The entire process relies on sensors. Your smartphone has several sensors that detect your actions and react accordingly. Today, we're going to talk about some of these hidden sensors in Android smartphones.

Ambient Light Sensor

This sensor tells your phone how much light is around you, and it adjusts the screen brightness accordingly. It's located near the front camera and works continuously.

Accelerometer

Almost all smartphones have this sensor. It enables motion control in gaming and also helps with image stabilization. This sensor is also responsible for turning on the display when you lift your phone. This sensor tracks side-to-side, up-down, and forward-backward movements.

Temperature Sensor

This sensor is only found in modern Pixel devices. Google Pixel 8 Pro and subsequent Pro models have this sensor. You can point this sensor at any object to measure its temperature. While cooking, you can use it to measure everything from the temperature of a pan to the room temperature.

Magnetometer

Very few people know about this sensor, but it's incredibly useful. It's primarily used for navigation. When you open Google Maps, the phone's screen rotates as you turn. This is all thanks to the magnetometer, which detects the Earth's magnetic field and orients the map accordingly. The compass app also works because of this sensor.
