The wait is over! 7.5 million women in Bihar will receive a gift of ₹10,000 each,Under Employment Scheme; PM Modi and CM Nitish to Launch

Patna, Sep 26, 2025 – A landmark initiative for women empowerment is set to unfold in Bihar today as the state government rolls out the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. Under this program, 7.5 million women linked with self-help groups (SHGs) will receive the first installment of ₹10,000 each directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The total disbursement for this phase amounts to a massive ₹7,500 crore, making it one of the largest women-centric financial assistance programs in the state’s history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually attend the launch ceremony, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will officially inaugurate the scheme in Patna.
Scheme Designed to Boost Self-Employment
The Nitish Kumar-led government has emphasized that the scheme is not just about financial support but about enabling women to build sustainable livelihoods.
-
Each eligible household will receive financial assistance for one woman member.
-
The initial grant of ₹10,000 can be used to start micro-businesses, strengthen ongoing small trades, or invest in farming, animal husbandry, tailoring, weaving, handicrafts, and other cottage industries.
-
Over time, beneficiaries may become eligible for additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to expand their enterprises.
The broader aim of the scheme is to promote economic independence, self-confidence, and long-term entrepreneurship among women in Bihar.
Celebrations Across the State
To mark the launch, the government has planned district- and block-level events to create a festive atmosphere.
-
Programs will be held across all 38 district headquarters, led by District Magistrates.
-
At the block level, 534 Block Development Officers (BDOs) will oversee events.
-
The scheme will also be celebrated live at 1,680 cluster-level federations and over 70,000 village organizations under the state’s Jeevika network.
Thousands of SHG women, popularly known as Jeevika Didis, are expected to participate in these events, symbolizing the collective strength of rural women.
Record Applications from Women
According to official data, the scheme has received an overwhelming response:
-
1.11 crore women have applied so far.
-
Of these, over 1.07 crore applications came from rural areas.
-
Nearly 4.66 lakh applications were submitted by women in urban regions.
-
Additionally, more than 4 lakh new women have registered with SHGs, hoping to benefit from the initiative.
This massive turnout highlights the growing interest of women in financial independence and self-employment opportunities.
Who Can Benefit from the Scheme?
Eligibility has been carefully structured to ensure that the support reaches genuinely needy women:
-
Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years of age.
-
Families should consist only of the woman, her husband, and unmarried children.
-
Neither the applicant nor her spouse should be an income tax payer or employed in a government (regular or contractual) job.
-
Most importantly, only women linked with self-help groups are eligible to receive benefits.
This framework is expected to prevent misuse and target assistance towards women from economically weaker households.
A New Ray of Hope
For millions of women across Bihar, the transfer of funds marks the beginning of new possibilities. From opening small shops to investing in agriculture and craft-based work, the assistance is expected to strengthen family incomes and empower communities.
The government believes that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana will not only make women self-reliant but also contribute to Bihar’s overall economic growth. As the first installment reaches bank accounts today, celebrations are expected across villages and neighborhoods, with smiles lighting up the faces of beneficiaries.
