Traffic Challan Cancellation: Nowadays, challans for traffic violations are issued online. However, sometimes, even if the vehicle is in good standing, a wrong challan is issued. This can happen due to a number plate error, a system error, or a similar number to another vehicle. In such cases, people are forced to pay a fine without any fault.

If this has happened to you, there's no need to worry. The government has now provided an easy way to resolve such cases. You can cancel the wrong challan both online and offline. Learn the complete process.

How to know if the challan is really wrong?

If you receive a wrong challan for your vehicle, it's important to first check whether the challan was actually issued for your vehicle or mistakenly linked to someone else's number. To do this, you can check the challan details using your vehicle number by visiting the Parivahan.gov.in website or the E-challan Parivahan portal. The challan date, location, and photo are displayed there.

If the vehicle in the photo isn't yours or the location doesn't match, then understand that the challan is incorrect. Sometimes traffic cameras or ANPR systems misread the number, leading to this error. In such cases, you can easily file a complaint and challenge the challan online with a photo.

How to get a wrong challan cancelled

To cancel a wrong challan, you must first visit the E-challan Parivahan portal. There, you will find the Complaint option. You will need to upload the challan number, vehicle number, mobile number, and relevant documents such as RC, driving license, and a photo of the vehicle. You will also need to explain why the challan is incorrect. The traffic department will then investigate and cancel the challan.

If you prefer, you can also go to the traffic police office and file a written complaint. After investigation, the challan is usually cancelled and no fine is charged. Be sure to file a complaint on time, as a pending challan could lead to a legal notice or even license suspension.
