AADHAAR

Your Aadhaar card is required everywhere. But the most important thing in every Aadhaar-related work is the OTP, which is sent by UIDAI to the mobile number registered in your Aadhaar.

Today, the Aadhaar card is not just an identity card; it has become the key to many essential services in our daily lives. Whether it's opening a bank account, availing the benefits of government schemes, processing pension or gas subsidies, linking PAN-Aadhaar, or filing income tax returns, your Aadhaar card is required everywhere. But the most important thing in every Aadhaar-related work is the OTP, which is sent by UIDAI to the mobile number registered in your Aadhaar.

But a question often arises: what if that mobile number is disabled, stolen, lost, or you're not using it at all? In such a situation, performing any online work related to Aadhaar becomes difficult. Therefore, it's crucial to update your new mobile number in Aadhaar. Let's explore how to add a new mobile number if the old number linked to Aadhaar has been deactivated.

Can I add a new mobile number?

UIDAI has disabled the online mobile number change facility for security reasons. If the mobile number can be changed online, anyone could misuse all Aadhaar-related services without your permission. To prevent this fraud, biometric verification is mandatory when adding a new mobile number, which can only be done at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. If your old number has been deactivated, you can link a new mobile number to Aadhaar through a few simple steps.

How to add a new mobile number?

1. Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra - The first step to adding a new number is to find an Aadhaar enrolment centre near you. You can easily locate the nearest centre by visiting the UIDAI website. Enter your state, district, or pin code. Information about the nearest Aadhaar centre will then appear on the screen.

2. Fill out the Aadhaar Update Form - Upon arriving at the centre, you will receive an Aadhaar Update and Correction Form. You will need to enter your name, Aadhaar number, and new mobile number. Note that the old mobile number does not need to be included in the form.

3. Biometric Verification - After submitting the form, the operator takes your fingerprint and iris scan to confirm your identity. This process is necessary to ensure that the person making the Aadhaar changes is the actual owner.

4. Pay the Fee and Receive a Receipt - The government fee for updating your mobile number is ₹50. After paying the fee, you will receive a receipt containing a URN. Using this URN, you can check the status of your request online.

How to Check the Status?

If you want to know whether your new mobile number has been linked to Aadhaar, go to the UIDAI website and select the Check Aadhaar Update Status or Verify Aadhaar option. Enter your Aadhaar number, fill in the captcha, and you will immediately know whether the update is complete. UIDAI often sends information about the update via SMS. It typically takes between 24 hours and 5 days for a mobile number to be updated. However, according to UIDAI guidelines, this process can take up to 90 days.
