WhatsApp Disappearing Message feature is a time-related setting for deleting messages.

When a user is using the Disappearing Message feature, the old messages disappear from the chat page before starting a new chat. That is, in a way, the old messages start getting deleted automatically.
Options available in WhatsApp Disappearing Messages
With WhatsApp Disappearing Messages, a WhatsApp user can select options like 24 Hours, 7 Days, or 90 Days.
However, it is important to mention here that if this setting is kept on, sometimes old and important messages can also get deleted.
If you feel that your old chats do not matter much, then you can let it auto-delete in a period of 1 week to 90 days as per your convenience.
Set WhatsApp's default message timer like this
First of all, you have to open WhatsApp.
Now click on the three dots in the top right corner.
Now you have to tap on Settings.
Now you have to tap on Privacy.
Now you have to tap on Default Message Timer.
Now you have to select any one option from 24 Hours, 7 Days, or 90 Days.
Note: If you do not want to use this setting for all WhatsApp contacts, you can set it for a specific contact.
You can enable the setting by going to the chat page of the contact for whom you want to keep the setting on and tapping on Disappearing Messages.
