The Madhya Pradesh government says that this scheme will benefit approximately 9.2 million electricity consumers. Surcharges ranging from 60% to 100% will be waived.

There's good news for the people of Madhya Pradesh. The state government has launched the Samadhan Yojana 2025-26 to provide relief to electricity bill defaulters. Under this scheme, significant discounts will be provided to consumers who have not paid their bills for several months. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched this scheme while inaugurating the new building of MP Power Management Company Limited in Bhopal.

The government says that approximately 9.2 million electricity consumers will benefit from this scheme. Surcharges ranging from 60% to 100% will be waived, meaning if you have outstanding electricity bills and the penalty amount is increasing, you will no longer have to pay these penalties; you will simply have to pay them according to the terms of the scheme.

Objective of the Scheme

In the past few years, many consumers have not paid their electricity bills on time. In many places, old bills were repeatedly received, while in others, there were complaints of smart meter malfunctions. Consequently, the outstanding and surcharge amounts on consumers continued to increase. To reduce this burden and regulate electricity bills, the government has implemented the Samadhan Yojana 2025-26. The Chief Minister stated that through this scheme, the state government will waive surcharges worth approximately ₹3,000 crore.

How long will the scheme last?

This scheme will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will be from November 3, 2025, to December 31, 2025, and the second phase will be from January 1, 2026, to February 28, 2026. Additionally, in the first phase, consumers will receive a surcharge waiver of 60% to 100%, while in the second phase, the waiver will range from 50% to 90%. The earlier they join the scheme, the greater the benefit.

Who will benefit from the Samadhan Yojana 2025-26 and how?

The state government also stated that all consumers, including domestic, agricultural, non-domestic, and industrial consumers, can participate in the scheme. However, the rebate rates vary. Domestic and agricultural consumers will have to deposit 10% of their total outstanding amount to join the scheme, while non-domestic and industrial consumers will have to deposit 25%. After making this deposit, consumers will be able to avail the scheme benefits and receive a specified percentage rebate on their surcharge.
