Cases of cybercrime are increasing continuously in the country, in which people have to suffer huge losses. In a recent case, a woman from Greater Noida was duped of Rs 51 lakh by scammers.

A woman in Greater Noida has been duped of more than Rs 51 lakh in an online scam. The woman was added to a WhatsApp group, where she was given free Amazon vouchers. Greedy and to earn more money, the woman fell for the scammers and downloaded an investment app. Here she kept investing money continuously, but instead of getting invested, this money kept going into the pockets of the scammers.

An unknown person contacted her on social media.

According to reports, Greater Noida resident Meenu Rani was contacted by a person named Hari Singh on social media. Hari Singh introduced himself as an investment expert and included Meenu in a WhatsApp group. A few days later, a woman named Aarti Singh contacted Meenu and said that Hari Singh had gifted an Amazon voucher worth Rs 1,000 to each group member. In this way, the scammers managed to win Meenu's trust.

The lure of earning on investment

Once the trust was won, Hari Singh lured the victim woman to invest money and earn profit. The woman fell for this lure and transferred Rs 50,000 to the scammers' account. After this, the scammers asked the woman to download an app. In this, the woman's deposit amount and the profit earned on it were being shown. Falling into the trap of the scammers, the woman transferred a total of Rs 51.5 lakh to the scammers' account. Later, a relative of the woman told her that this could be a scam. After this, when the woman asked for her money from the scammers, they blocked her. The victim has now complained to the police.
