The government took a big decision in the interest of farmers, approving ₹ 35,000 crores for the PM-AASHA scheme
The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved Rs 35,000 crore for the PM-AASHA scheme. On this occasion, PM Modi said that to ensure a continuous supply of fertilizers to farmers at affordable rates, the government has approved a nutrient-based subsidy for the Rabi season of 2024.
This decision will reduce the cost of cultivation of farmers across the country. The Prime Minister emphasized that this step will help in guaranteeing minimum support price for crops like pulses and oilseeds, making India self-sufficient in their production. This will increase the income of farmers and improve their livelihood.
What is PM-AASHA?
PM-AASHA is an integrated scheme that combines the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) under one umbrella. The initiative aims to support farmers by ensuring fair prices for their crops and also benefit consumers. Other Cabinet decisions Apart from this, the Cabinet took important decisions for the media and entertainment industry. A National Centre for Excellence in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality was approved, which will boost the creative ecosystem and create employment opportunities.
The Cabinet also approved the "Bio-Ride" scheme, which will advance India's advancement in biotechnology. The initiative will focus on sustainable development, financing and capacity building efforts.
Approval for holding simultaneous elections
The Cabinet has also accepted the recommendations of a high-level committee regarding holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Prime Minister Modi congratulated former President Ram Nath Kovind for spearheading the initiative and called it an important step towards making India's democracy more vibrant and participatory.
