The Government of India has taken a significant decision regarding soldiers honored with gallantry medals in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Under this order, these gallantry award recipients will be entitled to a facility of lifelong free travel on Indian Railways. This facility will be available in First Class, Second AC, or AC Chair Car coaches, accompanied by one companion.

Defense officials stated that this concession has been granted in honor of the nation's brave soldiers. This scheme will apply to all soldiers who have been awarded the Army, Navy, or Air Force Medal. The spouses of the award recipients will also be able to avail themselves of this facility. This includes widows and widowers, provided they do not remarry. Additionally, the parents of unmarried soldiers who received posthumous awards will also be extended this facility.

This initiative serves to express gratitude towards the soldiers who have displayed exceptional valor and made the supreme sacrifice for the country. It will provide financial assistance to these families regarding their travel needs. This order has come into effect immediately. Indian Railways will issue the necessary guidelines in this regard. This facility will be valid across the entire Indian Railways network.

What are the Eligibility Criteria?
Under this scheme, all individuals honored with the Army, Navy, or Air Force Medal will be eligible. The spouses of award recipients—including widows and widowers—will remain eligible until they remarry. The parents of unmarried soldiers who received posthumous awards may also avail themselves of this facility. Measures have been taken to ensure that every eligible individual who has served the nation receives this honor. The Ministry of Defense will issue detailed guidelines shortly.
