The central government runs many schemes from time to time for people from different sections of the society. These include farmers, poor families, women and small businessmen. Recently, the government has extended the period of such a scheme. Which is being run for street vendors and small vendors.
The Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi i.e. PM Swanidhi Yojana was started in June 2020 during the Kovid-19 pandemic. At that time the business of small shopkeepers and street vendors was most affected. For this reason, this scheme was started. So that they can be helped to stand up again and become self-reliant.
Many times such small businessmen need immediate money for their business. But it is not easy to take a loan from banks. In such a situation, this special scheme of the government has given great relief to lakhs of people. With its help, they are able to get loans at low interest rates without much hassle.
On 27 August 2025, the Union Cabinet reorganized this scheme and extended its duration till 31 March 2030. The government has decided to spend Rs 7332 on it. So along with this, the loan limit has also been increased in it. So that small vendors can take more capital and take their work forward more strongly.
Now the first installment of the loan has been increased from Rs 10000 to Rs 15000. The second installment has been increased from Rs 20000 to Rs 25000. The third installment will remain the same at Rs 50000. The special thing is that these loans are available without guarantee.
Due to which small vendors do not face any problem in raising money from the bank. Under the scheme, those who pay the installment on time will get RuPay Credit Card. With which they will be able to fulfill business or other needs. So at the same time, those who adopt digital payment will also get a cashback incentive of up to Rs 1600.
Let us tell you that this scheme is being operated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. While the facility of loan and credit card is being provided by the Department of Financial Services through banks. As of July 30, 2025, more than 96 lakh loans have been given to more than 68 lakh people.
