Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana: The central government has made significant changes to a major scheme related to villages. Along with the name change, the benefits offered under the scheme have also been modified.
Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana: Currently, many schemes are being run in the country. Several of these schemes were started by the previous government. One of the most important schemes related to rural India, the MGNREGA scheme, was launched in 2005. The central government has taken a major decision regarding this scheme. In a meeting of the Union Cabinet, the name of MGNREGA has been changed to Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana. Not only is the name of the scheme being changed, but the benefits of the scheme are also being modified.
The government has increased both the guaranteed days of employment and the wages. This will directly affect millions of families living in villages whose main source of income has been this scheme. The government's focus is now on making rural employment more stable. Amidst rising inflation, this decision is considered to be a boost for the rural economy. Let's tell you what other benefits have been added to the scheme.
MGNREGA scheme name to be changed
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, or MGNREGA, has been considered one of the country's largest social security schemes. Its objective was to provide a legal guarantee of the right to work in rural areas. Under the scheme, every rural family was given at least 100 days of employment in a year. It was started in 2005 under the name NREGA.
Later, it was associated with the name of Mahatma Gandhi. Under MGNREGA, works such as road construction, water conservation, pond digging, horticulture, and community development were carried out. This scheme played a crucial role in preventing migration, increasing women's participation, and stabilizing rural income. During times of crisis, this scheme emerged as a safety net for villages.
What will be available under the Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana?
Under the new Pujya Bapu Gramin Rojgar Yojana, the government has made two major changes. Firstly, the number of guaranteed employment days has been increased from 100 to 125. This means rural labourers will be assured of work for more days in a year. Secondly, the minimum wage has been increased to ₹240 per day. This will directly improve the daily income of the labourers.
The impact of more work and better wages will also be seen in the purchasing power of rural communities. This will support local markets, small businesses, and agriculture-based activities. The scheme aims to ensure that rural laborers do not remain dependent on aid, but instead strengthen their economic condition through their own hard work.
