Students should not be allowed to participate in unauthorized rallies, this was said by the education minister of Manipur while addressing a gathering today.

Manipur, located in the northeast part of the country, has been suffering from ethnic violence for a long time. Recently, students had taken out a rally against the government to restore peace there. Regarding this, today the Education Minister of Manipur Government, Thunaojam Basantkumar Singh said that students should not be allowed to participate in unauthorized rallies and meetings and he appealed to the public to keep academic institutions away from such activities.

Thunaojam Basantakumar Singh said this.

Addressing a press conference, Thunaojam Basantakumar Singh expressed concern over the involvement of some people who are not affiliated with recognized student organizations and who are allegedly encouraging students to join unauthorized protests. "Unfortunately, these people are entering academic campuses and inciting students to participate in unauthorized protests," he said.

Criticised the meeting of All Manipur Students

Basantakumar Singh criticized the meeting organized by a group called All Manipur Students on September 18 at Dhanmanjuri University in Imphal. The meeting scheduled in the absence of permission is illegal and warned that legal action will be taken. "Appropriate legal and preventive measures will be taken," Singh further said. He emphasized that the government does not recognize or support this meeting. He also reiterated that normal classes have resumed recently and emphasized that students should remain in classes during school hours.

Also appealed to parents.

The Education Minister mentioned the department's target of conducting 229 class days this year, out of which 153 days have been completed and 19 days have been lost due to floods, natural disasters, and social unrest. He said that investigations are underway to identify and track down the organizers of unauthorized meetings. He urged recognized student organizations to support efforts to keep the education sector disruption-free and also called upon parents to guide their children at home.
