Travel between Delhi-NCR and religious sites in Uttarakhand could soon become significantly faster. To facilitate this, discussions are currently underway regarding plans to extend the 'Namo Bharat' Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to Haridwar and Rishikesh. The objective of this proposed extension is to extend the existing Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor further north, potentially bringing about a transformative change in connectivity between the NCR and key religious and tourist destinations. According to a report by *The Tribune*, if this plan is implemented, the travel time from Delhi-NCR and Ghaziabad to Rishikesh could be reduced to a mere 2.25 to 3 hours. Currently, the operational Namo Bharat corridor connects Delhi to Meerut, having already significantly reduced travel time between the two cities. The proposed extension would commence from Modipuram in Meerut and run along National Highway 58, passing through several key towns before reaching Haridwar and Rishikesh.

**Namo Bharat to Connect These Regions**
According to *The Tribune*, the Central Government is actively considering this initiative, which could prove to be a major leap forward in regional transport infrastructure. This expansion is expected to provide a significant boost to tourism, real estate, and local economies across Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The key stations currently under evaluation for inclusion are Daurala, Sakauti, Khatauli, and Purkazi, all of which are situated close to the Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand border. The route is expected to pass through Roorkee, eventually terminating at Jwalapur in Haridwar and Rishikesh. Officials believe that enhanced connectivity will not only expedite travel but also offer a reliable alternative to congested highways—particularly during peak tourist seasons and major religious events. The corridor is likely to traverse through several important towns, thereby improving accessibility and stimulating economic activity within these regions.

Discussions Between Dhami and Khattar
According to reports, this proposal has gained momentum following high-level discussions between Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, wherein the expansion of the rapid rail network featured as a key agenda item. This project has the potential to redefine modes of travel, making weekend trips and pilgrimages significantly more convenient for residents of the NCR. It could also lead to an increased demand for hospitality services and accommodation in cities such as Haridwar and Rishikesh. However, the project remains in the planning phase and will require a detailed feasibility study, funding approval, and environmental clearances before work can commence. If approved, this expansion would mark a significant milestone in India's ongoing efforts toward high-speed regional connectivity, bringing the Himalayan foothills within just a few hours' travel distance of Delhi-NCR.
