The BC Sakhi scheme is for women who use smartphones; they receive 4,000 rupees every month..
The 'Banking Correspondent Sakhi' (BC Sakhi) scheme, launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, is an excellent initiative aimed at making women in rural India self-reliant and digitally empowered. Through this scheme, educated women in villages are being provided with employment opportunities. It serves as a golden opportunity for women who are proficient in using smartphones and wish to earn an income while living in rural areas. Under this scheme, women receive a monthly honorarium of ₹4,000.
What is the BC Sakhi scheme and what are its benefits?
The primary objective of this scheme is to extend banking services to villages through digital channels. Selected eligible women receive a monthly stipend of ₹4,000 for the first six months. Additionally, the government provides financial assistance of ₹50,000 for the purchase of banking hardware devices. After the initial six-month period, these 'Sakhis' earn an income through commissions generated from banking transactions, such as cash deposits, withdrawals, and facilitating loans.

BC Sakhis travel across villages to provide services related to bank accounts. Using micro-ATMs and other modern digital tools, they enable villagers to deposit or withdraw cash right at their doorsteps. This spares villagers the trouble of traveling to a bank, while simultaneously providing women with stable, local employment.
