The admission process begins in Delhi for Nursery to Grade 1 students, applications open from December 4th
The admission process for Nursery to Grade 1 students in Delhi begins on December 4th, with applications available online and offline.
Every year, there is great excitement among parents regarding admission to Nursery, KG, and Grade 1 in Delhi. The admission process for the 2026-27 academic session in the capital's private schools is set to begin once again. The Directorate of Education has issued instructions for schools to make their admission criteria public from today, December 4th. Online and offline application forms will also be available from that date.
Key Admission Criteria
The Delhi government has implemented the same criteria this year as in previous years. Based on these criteria, children will be selected using a point system.
Neighborhood (School Proximity) – Points will be awarded based on the distance between a child's home and school. To ensure that young children do not have to travel long distances, and avoid traffic and pollution.
Sibling Priority – If a child has a brother or sister already studying in the same school, they will be given additional points.
Alumni Parent – If the parent is a former student of the school, the child will receive priority.
Staff Ward – Children of school staff will be given priority in admission.
Application Process and Deadline
Application forms will be available from December 4, 2025. The deadline for submitting applications is December 27, 2025. Schools will update their admission criteria and point system on the website by November 28.
The Directorate has clarified that schools can charge a registration fee of only ₹25. No parent can be pressured to purchase a prospectus or pay additional fees, so as not to create a financial burden on the general public.
Emphasis on Transparency and Convenience
The admission process has been designed with transparency and fairness in mind. The government will make public the dates for the first list, second list, and other procedures by March 2026. Nursery admissions in Delhi are a concern for millions of families every year. Due to the limited number of private schools, the number of children applying is very high. This is why the Delhi government has implemented a points-based system.
Purpose of the Point System
Selection based on neighborhood, i.e., distance, is aimed at children's convenience and safety. Sibling and alumni criteria are designed to prioritize parents and families. Prioritizing staff wards is in the best interest of children of school staff.
