Today, February 25th, a meeting of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) is scheduled to be held in Delhi. Demands related to the 8th Pay Commission will be discussed and efforts will be made to finalize it. Let's find out what demands employee organizations are making of the government.
Employees Focus on the Fitment Factor and Salary Hike
The issues of a 3.25% fitment factor and a 7% annual increment have emerged as key issues in discussions related to the upcoming pay hike. Employees believe that if these proposals are approved, they could result in a significant increase in basic salaries. They say this will create a more balanced pay structure and provide relief to employees from rising inflation in the current situation.
In today's meeting, the drafting committee will gather suggestions from various employee organizations and prepare a joint memorandum. The committee's objective is to systematically convey all demands to the government. This joint memorandum will be submitted to Ranjana Prakash Desai, Chairperson of the 8th Pay Commission. According to reports, discussions will take place for about a week before finalizing the draft, ensuring that no key issues are missed.
Increment Increase: A Key Demand
Representatives of the Central Employees Federation believe that the government should consider annual increments. Currently, the annual increase is 3%. The organization is demanding that this be increased to 7 percent or that employees receive the benefit of biannual increments.
Retirement-Related Demands
Employee organizations have demanded that the leave encashment limit be increased from 300 days to 400 days to provide greater benefits to those with long service. Where the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is not available, it has been suggested that the fixed medical allowance be increased from ₹1,000 to ₹20,000 per month. The organization believes that the current amount is too low compared to the cost of treatment.
