PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: Farmers across the country have been waiting for the 21st installment of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, but the wait for farmers in Jammu and Kashmir is now over. The central government, taking a special initiative to help farmers affected by floods, landslides, and incessant rains, released the advance installment to 8.55 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir on October 7th.

₹171 crore transferred to farmers' accounts

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan transferred a total of ₹171 crore to farmers' bank accounts via video conferencing from Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday. This financial assistance also includes 85,418 women farmers. According to government data, a total of ₹4,052 crore has been disbursed to farmers in Jammu and Kashmir so far under the PM Kisan Yojana.

What is the PM Kisan Yojana?

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was launched in 2019. Under this scheme, the central government provides financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually to all eligible farmers in the country. This amount is transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts in three equal installments (₹2,000 each). The scheme aims to stabilize farmers' income and help them meet their farming needs.

The government stands with farmers during floods and disasters.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands with the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, "The central government is ensuring that no farmer feels left out due to natural disasters. The advance release of the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Yojana is an important step towards meeting the immediate needs of farmers."

Three states have received advance installments before

This is not the first time the central government has released an advance installment. In September 2025, farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh were also given the 21st installment ahead of time. These states also suffered significant agricultural losses due to heavy rains and floods at that time.
