If you are a Telegram user, then soon you are going to get good news. Elon Musk's AI startup xAI's Grok chatbot is going to come on the messaging app Telegram. Yes, xAI will pay Telegram $300 million (about Rs. 2,564 crores) so that its Grok chatbot can be deployed on the messaging app. Through this, xAI wants to reach more than one billion users of the platform and strengthen its foothold in the fast-growing artificial intelligence market.

Under this one-year agreement, xAI will also give Telegram half of any subscription sales made through the messaging app. Telegram founder Pavel Durov said in a post on X on Wednesday that $300 million (about Rs. 2,564 crores) will be paid in cash and stock. Durov said that xAI will only access the data that Telegram users directly interact with Grok.

Musk denies

However, Musk replied to a post on X regarding the deal between the two platforms and said that no agreement has been signed, to which Durov said that the parties have agreed in principle but formalities remain. The deal could provide xAI, which acquired X earlier this year, with crucial data to train and develop its AI models.

With many open-source repositories defunct, AI companies are facing increasing challenges in obtaining quality data, leading companies like Meta Platforms to use public interactions with AI for model training.

According to its privacy policy, X uses users' public posts to train its AI models. It was not immediately clear whether xAI would also similarly use data from Telegram. xAI, which has forged several partnerships this year to strengthen its position in AI infrastructure and financial services, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
