Bollywood's 'Chhote Nawab' i.e. Saif Ali Khan was attacked with a knife in his own house late last night. The attacker attacked him 6 times one after the other and later fled from there. Many theories have come up in this case as to who the attacker was. But the bigger thing is that technology helped the police to reach the attacker. After all, which technology helped the police?
The police used Data Dump technology to identify Saif Ali Khan's attacker. This revealed the location of his phone and later the identity of the attacker was confirmed. At the same time, with the help of CCTV footage, the police were able to confirm this identity.
What is Data Dump technology?
The police collected data dump around Saif Ali Khan's house to identify the accused. A data dump is actually the data of the mobile towers installed in that area. The police extracted data dump from all the mobile towers in that area at the time of the attack and on the basis of this, they were able to reach the attacker.
There are only a limited number of mobile phone towers installed in any area. With the help of these towers, all the mobile phones active in that area get a network. In such a situation, data dump technology tells how many phones were connected to a tower at a particular time. It also gives information about when the phone was active and when it was switched off. However, it is used only to trace the location of the phone, not of any person.
Every mobile tower stores this data when a phone is connected. Whenever a phone connects to a tower, a log (account) is created on it. Then when this phone leaves the range of one tower and reaches another tower, its log is created on that tower as well.
The data stored in the data dump includes information related to the phone including IMEI number, MAC address, IP address and location, and many other metadata. Using different software, the police can also collect information like user's call logs, text messages, files, browsing history, and e-mails.
