Tech Tips: What are PNG, GIF and JPEG image formats, it is necessary to choose this option for excellent image quality..
We all must have heard about JPEG, PNG, and GIF files. But do you know about these formats? Do you know why JPEG format photos are uploaded on social media and why website logos are made in PNG format?
Why animated logos are made in animation i.e. GIF? Today we are going to tell you about the specialty of these three formats and their use. Come, today we are going to tell you the difference between JPEG format, PNG format, and GIF format.
What is JPEG format?
JPEG is the standard compressed format used in digital photography and online image sharing today, which finely balances file size and quality. A standard JPEG image in this format has a compression ratio of 10:1. That is, if you export a photo of 10MB in JPEG format, then the size of your photo will be about 1 MB.
If you understand in simple language, then the size of your 10MB photo has become 1MB. It looks the same even in the photo. But when you zoom the photo, the photo starts bursting into pixels. The quality which was coming earlier on zooming the photo, now that quality is not visible.
What is PNG format?
Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is a lossless file format. The biggest advantage of a PNG file is that the quality of the photo does not decrease in its compression. Whenever you export a photo in PNG format, the quality of the photo does not decrease. The same depth quality is visible in the photo which remains before.
This is the reason why whenever you take a screenshot, its default file format is PNG. Pixel for pixel information is available in PNG. Another great feature of a PNG file is that it is transparent.
The 'logo' used on websites is in PNG format. No matter how many times you save the PNG file, the quality of the photo does not decrease. In addition, PNG files come equipped with a 24-bit RGB color palette and grayscale images. This image format was designed for transferring images over the Internet.
What is GIF format?
The full form of GIF is Graphical Interchange Format. Simply put, a GIF image is a series of videos without sound that keep looping continuously. It is a bitmap image format and GIF was invented in 1987 by Steve Wilhite, an American software writer.
gif is used for GIF file extension. GIF is generally small in size and supports animation and transparency. It is a very popular image file format which is used in many places. Many times we share GIFs to someone in chat on WhatsApp which usually acts like a video.
