The approval allows AST SpaceMobile's first five commercial BlueBird satellites operating in low Earth orbit to test voice, full data, and video applications with smartphones, as well as other native cellular capabilities.

Verizon said its network reaches more than 99 percent of the US population and meets existing wireless communication needs. To strengthen its network coverage, Verizon and AST are working together to create 'the fastest satellite-to-device network, which will have the capability of text, voice, and live video calling.'
