Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has changed the rules for creating UAN (Universal Account Numbers). The UMANG app will now be necessary to create a new UAN number. This rule has come into effect from August 1. Along with this, EPFO has also made Face Authentication Technology (FAT) mandatory from the UMANG app to make the UAN generation and activation process simple and secure.

According to the official circular, the UMANG app will now be necessary for all new UANs. It states that the Umang app is being made mandatory to avoid mistakes and make this process easier than before. UAN generation will now be done only through FAT in the UMANG app.

For whom will the UMANG app be necessary?

All such employees who want to generate a new UAN. Or they want to activate their existing UAN number. Along with this, the Umang app will also be necessary for all those employees who have to update their EPFO ​​details.

The full name of the UMANG app is Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance. Along with this, employees will also have to install the Aadhaar Face RD app on their devices. However, this is not necessary for citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, and foreign origin working in the country. Their UAN numbers will be created by the employer, like the initiative.

How to generate a new UAN from the UMANG app?

First of all, you have to open the UMANG app on your smartphone. After this, you have to click on the option of UAN Allotment and Activation here.

Now you will be asked to share the details of your Aadhaar number and linked mobile number.

After sharing all the details, an OTP will be shared on your mobile number.

After verifying the OTP, you will have to do face scan authentication.

If there is no UAN before your name, then this system will generate a new number for you, and you will get it on the registered mobile number.

How to activate UAN from the Umang app
Open the UMANG app on your smartphone. Now you have to click on the option of UAN Activation.
Now you have to submit your UAN, Aadhaar number, and mobile number and verify the OTP.
After OTP verification, you have to complete the biometric authentication process with the help of the Aadhaar Face RD app.
As soon as the verification is complete, you will get a temporary password on the registered mobile number and UAN will be activated.
