ITR Filling: In some cases, the refund also gets stuck. That is, most of the cases in this are where e-verification has not been done within 30 days of filing ITR or the bank details have been entered incorrectly.

Income Tax Refund: When taxpayers file income tax returns, then they eagerly wait for the refund. This question remains in their mind that when will the refund amount be received. Actually, the refund process starts after the date on which e-verification is done by the taxpayers. It has generally been seen that after e-verification, it can take about two weeks to two months for the refund to come.

Why is there a delay in refund?

If any mistakes are made by the taxpayers in the refund, then they may have to file a revised return. As per the guidelines of the Income Tax Department, the refund process starts as soon as the ITR is filed. In case of e-verification, the refund is received quickly. However, in some cases the refund gets stuck. Most of the cases are those where e-verification is not done within 30 days of filing the ITR or the bank details are entered incorrectly.

Therefore, it is important that the ITR is filled correctly and e-verification is done within 30 days. If this is not done, the return may become invalid. The Income Tax Department starts the refund process only after e-verification.

What to do if the refund does not come?

People who file ITR-1 usually get a refund within 10 to 15 days.

People who file ITR-2 may take 20 to 45 days.

It may take about two months for those who file ITR-3 to get their refund.

If there is a delay in the refund, you can call the Income Tax Department's helpline number 1800-103-4455. Apart from this, officials can also be contacted by emailing on the mail ID ask@incometax.gov.in.
