Summer Vacations in Delhi Government Schools Begin May 11; Special Remedial Classes to be Held for Students of Classes 9, 10, and 12
The remedial classes will be conducted during the morning hours. Teachers are required to be present at the school from 7:20 AM to 11:00 AM, while classes for students will run from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
The Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, has issued an important circular regarding summer vacations in government schools. Summer vacations will be observed in all government schools across the capital from May 11, 2026, to June 30, 2026. However, special remedial classes will be organized for students of Classes 9, 10, and 12 from May 11 to May 23, 2026. The objective of these classes is to strengthen students’ weak subjects and improve their learning outcomes.
Remedial Classes to be Held in the Morning Shift
According to the issued directives, the remedial classes will be conducted during the morning hours. Teachers are required to be present at the school from 7:20 AM to 11:00 AM, while classes for students will run from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Each period will be one hour long, and a total of three periods will be conducted.
Separate Arrangements for Double-Shift Schools
The Directorate of Education has clarified that in schools operating on a double-shift basis, remedial classes will be conducted in a separate wing to ensure that regular school operations remain unaffected. School administrations have been instructed to make the necessary arrangements based on available resources and the number of teachers.
Special Emphasis on Mathematics and Science
For students of Classes 9 and 10, a special focus will be placed on the subjects of Mathematics and Science. However, School Heads may also conduct additional classes for other subjects based on specific requirements and an analysis of academic results. Meanwhile, for Class 12, the selection of subjects will be determined based on the specific academic needs of the students.
Additional Support for Needy Students
The circular instructs school heads to pay special attention to vulnerable and needy students. Teachers have been asked to focus on students’ academic progress on an individual basis and to ensure a tangible improvement in their performance.
School Uniforms Mandatory; Attendance to be Recorded Online
Wearing the school uniform will be mandatory for students attending remedial classes. Additionally, student attendance will be recorded online. Schools must also ensure that parental consent—specifically a No Objection Certificate (NOC)—is obtained for all students participating in these remedial classes.
Emphasis on Libraries and Basic Amenities
The Education Department has issued directives ensuring that school libraries remain open during remedial classes, allowing students to benefit from self-study opportunities and book issuance services. Furthermore, the responsibility for providing clean drinking water and other basic amenities has been entrusted to the school heads.
Guest Teachers to be Appointed if Necessary
In the event that regular teachers are unavailable, the school administration is authorized to utilize the services of guest or contract teachers. The Department has also stated that regular teachers performing duties during the summer vacation will be granted earned leave in accordance with established rules, while guest teachers will be remunerated as per prevailing regulations.
Strict Monitoring Instructions Issued to Officials
District and zonal-level education officials have been instructed to closely monitor the effective conduct of the remedial classes. Officials are required to visit and inspect the arrangements at a minimum of two schools daily to ensure the proper implementation of the initiative.
