Attitudes towards daughters are changing these days. Daughters are making a name for themselves in every field. Their presence is growing across virtually all sectors, including science, sports, the arts, engineering, media, defense, and education. Parents simply need to focus on empowering them. If you have a daughter, you can take a significant step today towards securing her future. By investing in the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), you can build a substantial fund for your daughter's higher education.

**Investment required for only 15 years**

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a government scheme; therefore, investments made in it are completely secure. This scheme has no connection to the stock market, meaning your investment remains unaffected by market fluctuations. You are required to invest in this scheme for only 15 years, and the investment matures after 21 years. This implies that if you start investing immediately after your daughter's birth, a large fund will be available to her by the time she turns 21.

**Easily build a substantial fund for your daughter's higher education**

The funds generated through SSY can help your daughter build a better future. She can pursue higher education of her choice or even study abroad. She will not have to rely on others for financial support to fulfill her dreams. In essence, a small initiative by parents can pave the way for their daughter's success.

**Investment can be made for daughters up to 10 years of age**

Individuals can avail the benefits of the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for up to two daughters. The daughter must not be older than 10 years. The earlier you start investing in this scheme, the greater the potential to accumulate a substantial fund. If you wish to build a substantial fund, you can start investing in this scheme immediately after your daughter's birth. This scheme falls under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act, meaning you can claim a tax deduction on the invested amount. However, this benefit is available only to those opting for the old income tax regime.

**It is among the government schemes offering the highest interest rates**

The current annual interest rate for this scheme is 8.2%, making it the highest-yielding among all government investment schemes. The government reviews the interest rate every quarter. The scheme allows for a maximum annual investment of ₹1.5 lakh, which works out to ₹12,500 per month. As it is a long-term scheme, it benefits significantly from the power of compounding; this means the interest earned is added to the principal amount, and you subsequently earn interest on that accumulated total.

**Investing ₹12,500 monthly creates a fund of ₹71.8 lakh**

Starting an investment in this scheme right after your daughter's birth allows for the creation of a large corpus by the time she turns 21. If you invest ₹12,500 monthly, your total investment over 15 years will amount to ₹22.5 lakh. With an annual interest rate of 8.2%, a fund of ₹71.8 lakh will be ready for your daughter after 21 years. This total includes ₹49.3 lakh in interest earned on your ₹22.5 lakh investment. Investors can choose to invest a smaller amount based on their financial capacity.

If an individual starts investing in this scheme when their daughter is two years old and contributes ₹10,000 monthly, the investment will mature when she turns 21—after a 15-year investment period. Upon maturity, a corpus of ₹55,42,062 will be available for the daughter. This amount comprises ₹18,00,000 in total investments and ₹37,42,062 in interest. A key feature is that the maturity amount from this scheme is tax-free, meaning the entire sum is received by you.
