On the occasion of Diwali, the Bihar government has announced a significant initiative to promote environmental conservation and green transport. Under the state government’s 'Chief Minister’s Bihar Environment-Friendly Transport Employment Scheme' (*Mukhyamantri Bihar Paryavaran Anukul Parivahan Rojgar Yojana*), subsidies are being offered to individuals who purchase electric vehicles (EVs). The scheme provides a direct subsidy of up to ₹1 lakh to women who purchase a four-wheeled electric vehicle. Additionally, subsidies will also be provided for two-wheeled vehicles across various categories.

Under this scheme, the subsidy amount will be granted to vehicle owners upon the purchase and registration of an electric vehicle. Buyers will be eligible to avail of this subsidy—subject to specific terms and conditions—until March 31, 2027.

What is the subsidy amount for each vehicle category?
According to the guidelines issued by the Transport Department, the incentive amounts for different types of electric vehicles are as follows:

Electric four-wheelers (E-Cars – non-commercial): A subsidy of ₹1,00,000 per vehicle (exclusively for women).

Electric two-wheelers (E-Bikes/E-Scooters): ₹10,000 per vehicle for male buyers from the general category.

For female buyers and beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities: ₹12,000 per vehicle.

Electric three-wheeled cargo vehicles (E-Rickshaws/E-Carts): ₹50,000 per vehicle for the general category.

For beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities: ₹60,000 per vehicle.

Key Terms and Conditions of the Scheme
To avail of the benefits under this scheme, the vehicle must be purchased and registered on or after May 15, 2026. This subsidy applies exclusively to electric vehicles; hybrid vehicles (those using both petrol and electric power) are not eligible. Once the verification process is complete, the subsidy amount will be credited directly to the beneficiary's bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The incentive amount will be distributed on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.

To avail the benefits of this scheme, you must possess the following documents:

Applicant's Aadhaar card and PAN card.

This is a major initiative by the government aimed at reducing environmental pollution and encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles. Citizens can obtain further information regarding the scheme through the official portal of the Transport Department.
