Powerbank Ban in Flights: From October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has completely banned the use of power banks on its flights. Passengers can now only carry one power bank (with a capacity of less than 100 watt-hours) in their carry-on bag, but using or charging it during the flight is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this rule could result in inconvenience to passengers.

What do the new guidelines say?

According to the new rules, passengers will only be allowed to carry one power bank, provided its power capacity is less than 100 Wh, and this information is clearly displayed on the board. However, charging any device on board or using the power bank from the aircraft's power supply will not be permitted.

Some important rules regarding power banks

Power banks can only be placed in carry-on bags, not in checked-in bags.

They will not be allowed in the overhead bin. Passengers must store them in the seat pocket or under the seat in front.

Power banks must be within reach of passengers so that flight crews can respond immediately in case of an emergency.

In the event of overheating or malfunction, the power bank must be immediately shown to the crew.

Why did Emirates take this step?

Actually, power banks with lithium-ion batteries are at risk of thermal runaway. This condition occurs when the battery temperature rises uncontrollably, potentially causing a fire or explosion. Poor-quality or cheap power banks exacerbate this risk because they lack safety features like auto-shutoff or temperature control.

Other airlines around the world are also taking a strict stance.

Emirates is not the only airline to take this step. Major airlines like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, EVA Air, China Airlines, and AirAsia have already banned the use of power banks. This decision was made following several incidents, including a fire on an Air Busan flight in 2023. Twenty-seven passengers were injured in this accident, and a power bank was suspected to be the cause.

What Passengers Should Keep in Mind

For safety and to avoid inconvenience, passengers should take certain precautions.

Charge your devices before traveling.

Use in-seat charging points available on the flight.

Power banks should be labeled with their capacity (less than 100Wh).

Never put them in checked-in luggage.

Follow crew instructions, or the power bank may be confiscated or barred from boarding.

This new Emirates rule is designed with passenger safety in mind. Passengers will now need to follow these guidelines before flying.
